If you don’t, you’ll be sent where your parents were sent,” — this is what Ambassador Zenonas Kumetaitis was told during his first negotiations in Moscow over access to cartographic archives, as he recounts in “Non-Diplomatic Conversation.” He says officials even showed him lists of Sąjūdis members to intimidate him.

In the conversation with Artūras Jonkus, Ambassador Kumetaitis also talks about transporting a truck and a half of maps from Riga — where cartographic materials of the Baltics and Kaliningrad were stored during Soviet times — how the border with Belarus had been set by collective farm chairmen, and how negotiations on the border with Russia first began.
