“1997–1998 were the years of a double knockdown — we were not invited to join the group of countries beginning EU membership negotiations in Luxembourg, nor did we receive an invitation for NATO membership in Madrid. But we turned those setbacks into political will and did our homework to secure those invitations in the future,” recalls former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Vygaudas Ušackas.
