A. Rimkūnas: sometimes it took more than one attempt to explain where Lithuania is

SUMMARY
“The human side of diplomacy is crucial. You must explain your country’s interests not formally, but person to person, showing why cooperation is beneficial,” recalls Ambassador Algimantas Rimkūnas, who worked as an economic adviser at the Lithuanian Embassy in Belgium in 1993. At the time — and even later, in Western Europe — he often had to introduce Lithuania as a newly restored independent state.
In his conversation with Artūras Jonkus, Ambassador Rimkūnas notes that WTO accession talks meant negotiating not only with member states, but also within Lithuania itself, especially with institutions tied to agriculture.
